Cannes Lions is open for 2019!

The Advertising Association is now in place as the UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity, Cannes Lions.

The decision to take on this role has come as we approach Brexit – how we showcase UK advertising on the world stage in the coming years will be central to our future success. This initiative is underway in partnership with the Department of International Trade which has committed funding in return for matched effort from our industry to present our very best front at Cannes next summer.

So, we are busy working with our industry partners on how we can really help UK advertising stand out at next year’s festival.

Our role is to help our industry – UK media, agencies and brands – get the very best from the Festival and, by doing so, cement our position as the global centre for creative excellence in advertising.

2018 Cannes Highlights

Content pitches

Our first mission is to get the very best of our industry up on stage in the Palais, so this is a call to arms for any business looking to speak at Cannes 2019.

Points to consider:

  • All content pitches need to be submitted by December 14 – please click here for full instructions on how to submit your entries
  • If you have any queries on how best to pitch your content or to have a chat around the best options, please contact us as we may be able to help you.
  • Once you have submitted your pitch/es, if you have not already done so, please email us with details of your speaker/s and topics – we would love to see them so we can consider how else we may be able to support what UK advertising is doing at the event next summer.

Cannes Open Day

We are hosting an afternoon of events on 30 January at Kings Place in London for young people both aspiring to work in the advertising industry and those already employed within it, to introduce Cannes Lions and offer practical workshops.

As the UK representative of Cannes Lions, the world’s greatest festival of creativity, we and our partners Channel 4, Clear Channel UK, Framestore, M&C Saatchi and the Department of International Trade would like to invite you to an open afternoon to learn about what it really means to work in this amazing industry and introduce you to Cannes Lions.

Cannes Lions Masterclass

UK advertising is a leader on the world stage. We win more Cannes Lions per capita than any other country in the world. But the competition is tough and, with Brexit on the horizon, the time is right to accelerate that creativity.

So, please join us as a guest at our Cannes Masterclass, presented by companies including Channel 4, Clear Channel UK, Framestore and M&C Saatchi in partnership with the Advertising Association and Department of International Trade.  Our celebration of creativity will include speakers and winners from Cannes Lions, the world’s greatest festival of creativity,

Judging the Lions

As UK representative for Cannes Lions, we are responsible for providing the festival with juror nominations.

Kindly note that jurors for the following categories have already been pre-selected by Cannes Lions: Direct, Media, PR, Industry Craft, Music and Health & Wellness, so please do not provide nominations for these categories.

How to submit juror nominations

Please prepare an entry for each person in a word / pdf document including:

  • Their full name, job title, company and name of the holding company (ignore if company is independent)
  • Which of the above category / categories you are nominating for
  • A paragraph outlining the person’s eligibility, including details of any previous awards won and previous juries sat on. Please note that priority will be given to Lions winners.

If we approve your submission we will then ask you to complete an official juror nomination form to be sent to Cannes Lions.

Please note that in addition to being able to travel to Cannes for the duration of the festival (17-21 June), there will also be preliminary judging beforehand.

Cannes Lions will make the selection from our nominations next year, and we will then inform the successful candidates in the Spring.

Young Lions

We will be running 6 competitions for Young Lions, and details will be posted in January.
