The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

A A A

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around public health, gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital economy and more.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 90 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

Advertising Matters

Pinch, punch, it’s the first day of Export Month!

The Promote UK group, chaired by Janet Hull, IPA, met yesterday morning. The group discussed upcoming Export Month activity, which includes; the Shanghai International Advertising Festival (SHIAF); South by Southwest festival (SXSW); the APA’s Tokyo-London Forum 2019; Adweek Europe; and the Cannes Lions UK Competition. We also heard from DIT on the ‘If we can, you can’ campaign which aims to show how exporting is possible in our sector.

Our Chief Executive, Stephen Woodford, is flying to Shanghai on Sunday for SHIAF, the first key event as part of Export Month. He will be joined by our Promote UK partners the Department for International Trade and the IPA, as well as other fellow members of the UK delegation The Specialist Works, The Beyond Collective, Imagination London, adam&eveDDB, LONDON advertising, RGA, VCCP, Crowd, Qumin, Feref, Across the Pond, Gain Theory and Freedman International.

Closely following SHIAF will be SXSW, and as part of our activity there, on March 9th, the UK Creative industry will be taking over the British Music Embassy in Austin, Texas, for a series of talks and debates on creativity, advertising and more trust in trust itself. Within this, there will be a session discussing recent research by our think tank Credos, and McCann Worldwide, on public trust in advertising and how the situation compares with the US.

Janet Hull, director of marketing strategy at IPA and chair of Promote UK said: “We are delighted to be hosting the first dedicated UK advertising day at SXSW this year. This will be the important next stop on our Promote UK group’s month-long celebration of UK ad excellence.”

You can read more about our activity at SXSW in this piece in Campaign.

Showing the Reel you

A few weeks ago we welcomed nearly 1,000 people through the doors at Kings Place for three different events all taking place in one day. LEAD 2019 took place in the morning, before we held two events as part of our activity as the UK rep for Cannes Lions – UK Advertising Needs You and Cannes Lions Masterclass – in the afternoon.

We are pleased to let you know that you are now able to watch the two showreels – one for LEAD 2019 and one combining the afternoon events – on our YouTube channel here. Check them out!

It was an outstanding day of insight and inspiration, and as always, a big thank you goes to our sponsors, partners, speakers and attendees.
