The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

A A A

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around public health, gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital economy and more.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 90 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

Celebrating our export success

Monday, March 2 saw the official launch of the UK Advertising Export Group (UKAEG), a new UK advertising industry partnership with UK Government to build profile and lead generation opportunities internationally. UKAEG is backed by the Advertising Association, the IPA, APA, DMA, London & Partners and the Creative Industries Council and numbers 45 members drawn from across the UK’s advertising and marketing services industries. A brand new dedicated web hub for the group has also launched here.

The group is strengthened by its relationship with the Department for International Trade, which is backing the initiative with funding and increased access for UK advertising at GREAT events around the world. This relationship between industry and Government will be crucial as the UK heads to SXSW in a few days’ time and Cannes Lions this summer to celebrate the best of advertising from around the world. Aisling Conlon, who joins from the IPA, has been appointed as UKAEG’s Marketing Manager to build the group as a crucial force in UK advertising’s growth strategy overseas. UKAEG Chair, Janet Hull of the IPA, wrote about the group’s launch in Little Black Book. Head here to read more.

Breakfast of champions

We held a roundtable breakfast event with parliamentarians from the Liberal Democrats’ DCMS and BEIS teams on Wednesday. The event, titled ‘Self-, co- and statutory regulation – striking the balance in the digital space’, sparked off a constructive discussion on the importance of EU-UK data sharing and GDPR. Parliamentarians in attendance included Liberal Democrat DCMS Spokesperson Daisy Cooper MP, Liberal Democrat BEIS Spokesperson Sarah Olney MP, Lord Clement-Jones, Lord McNally and Lord Fox.

Let’s hear those Lions roar!

Don’t miss out – make sure you sign up your teams for the UK Young Lions Competition by this Monday 9 March! We’re looking for the best in UK advertising to go head-to-head with the next generation of the world’s creative stars at Cannes this summer.

Chaired by our Chief Executive, Stephen, the Outvertising Awards will take place on the evening of Thursday 23 April 2020 and will be an evening of education, opportunity and celebration across the marketing industry.
