The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

A A A

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around public health, gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital economy and more.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 90 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

LEADING THE WAY IN SCOTLAND

Our main event this week was the inaugural LEAD Scotland in Edinburgh!

Scotland’s £1.7 billion advertising industry was the focus of our summit at the National Museum of Scotland. Supported by STV, LEAD Scotland brought industry together with politics. It had a unique focus on the country’s advertising industry and its role in the Scottish economy and wider society. Delegates included a mix of business leaders from across advertising, the media and brands, alongside policy makers and political opinion-formers, who all came to hear about rebuilding public trust in advertising, the unique strengths of Scotland as an advertising market and how it can turbo-charge growth and entrepreneurialism in the country.

The event was chaired by our President Keith Weed and hosted by STV North Newscaster Andrea Brymer. Key speakers included Minister for Business, Fair Work and Skills, Jamie Hepburn MSP; STV CEO Simon Pitts; Mark Evans, MD Marketing & Digital, Direct Line Group; our CEO Stephen Woodford; Simon Watson, MD, Personal Banking, RBS; Shona McCarthy, CEO, Edinburgh Fringe Festival Society; and Cat Leaver, Director, Brand Scotland.

A huge thanks goes to all of our wonderful speakers, STV for their support and of course, all of our attendees. It was a fantastic event and we can’t wait to do it again next year!

GOING FOR GOLD

On Wednesday morning, UK Advertising Export Champion, James Murphy, was joined by Aisling Conlon of the IPA and our Comms Director, Matt Bourn, to present to Department for International Trade’s Commercial Officers from around the world at Here East, the former Media Centre for the London 2012 Olympics. Their mission was to give the officers all the knowledge and insight they need to represent UK advertising in countries including China, Korea, Japan and North America as part of a 5-day immersion into the UK’s Creative Industries.

IT’S CHRISTMAAAAS!

The Christmas Advertising season has well and truly arrived – many high-profile brands have dropped their festive campaigns over the last two weeks and the highly anticipated John Lewis ad was released yesterday, as we’re sure you’ve all seen!

As such, our Comms Director Matt Bourn has written a piece on the Christmas Advertising season and what it means for us at the Advertising Association. He discusses everything from forecasting adspend figures to radio interviews, and gives his own opinion on this year’s ads so far. You can read Matt’s article on our website here, and if you’d like to know more, you can email him on matt.bourn@adassoc.org.uk.
