The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

A A A

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around public health, gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital economy and more.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 90 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

President’s reception 2020

Yesterday evening we hosted our annual President’s Reception, but this time, with a difference…

Our President’s Reception is a key date in the calendar every year as it allows us an opportunity to look back and to look forward. Normally, we would all gather somewhere in London for this special occasion, but due to Covid-19, it took place virtually, and that’s not the only difference! This year, we created a special light-hearted film to play as part of the reception, where our President, Keith Weed, Chair, Philippa Brown and Chief Executive, Stephen Woodford, gave an update on all-things Advertising Association, including member updates, rebuilding public trust in advertising, climate action and building a more inclusive workforce, and they also took part in a Q&A session as well.

A huge thank you goes to everyone who helped to make the film happen and also to those who attended our President’s Reception. Hopefully next time it will be in person! You can read more on the event and watch the film over on our website here.

Share of mind before share of market

On Wednesday morning the UK Advertising Exports Group (UKAEG) launched its second virtual trade mission for UK Advertising – a roundtable discussion with the Chinese Advertising Association (CAA), their members and representatives from both UK and Chinese Governments. We held our first roundtable with the CAA at Cannes Lions in 2019 and we were pleased that we are able to build on that relationship that was formed and host our second event virtually.

This was a knowledge-sharing event with over 50 attendees from the UK and China as part of our series to seek global collaborations and opportunities for UK Advertising, as economies and international trade recover from the Covid-19 crisis. We know that the UK is the global hub of advertising, however it is also a global gateway for companies looking to go global. We want Chinese brands and businesses to see the UK as their ‘home from home’ and the first place they come to when expanding their business.

We are continuing our virtual trade missions and the next one is a showcase of UKAEG members at the Shanghai International Advertising Festival next week. We are hosting a series of talks on stage, running virtual booths for the 20+ members attending and working with DIT China to arrange one-2-one meetings with Chinese companies wanting to work work with UK businesses. If you would like to find out more about UKAEG, please contact Aisling Conlon.

ALL THE BEST

On Wednesday the fantastic Tess Alps, Founding Chief Executive and current Non-Executive Chair of Thinkbox, announced that she would be retiring at the end of the year after 14 years with the organisation.

It has been an absolute pleasure working with Tess over the years and we were delighted to award her with the Mackintosh Medal in 2018 – a rare award for those who have given an outstanding service to the advertising industry over the course of their careers. You can read more on why we wanted to recognise Tess’ contribution to our industry here.

From all of us at the AA, we wish you all the best, Tess!

AD PAYS 8 – THE CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE

As we begin to ease out of lockdown we are seeing a shift in the work produced by our industry which is reflective of this. The Covid-19 category on our Ad Pays 8 hub, which is a showcase for ads that have had a positive contribution to society, shows the journey we’ve all been on, up to present time, through creativity. This week, check out our member MullenLowe’s campaign for the UK Government here.
