The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

A A A

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around public health, gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital economy and more.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 90 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

WHAT’S YOUR BRIEF, CHIEF?

On Wednesday we held a briefing session at AA HQ on the latest Brexit developments for our members. This included a panel session made up of our very own Strategic Policy Advisor, Konrad Sheck (AKA LBB’s Brexit agony aunt, Brexit Brenda), and officials from DCMS, BEIS and the Institute for Government.

Discussions focused on the Government’s proposed new deal and the levels of Brexit preparedness from industry. Although the risk of no-deal has decreased, DCMS has published a useful Brexit preparedness checklist which can be found here.

You can also find advice from Brexit Brenda on LBB here and our hub of information for industry on our website here.

YES, WE CANNES!

We spent Monday and Tuesday this week at the Cannes Lions annual representatives meeting, where reps from 47 different countries all over the world gathered in central London to gain insights from the last festival and inspiration for the next.

Over the two days we heard from speakers from the Cannes Lions team and from fellow reps on feedback from the 2019 festival, what will be new for 2020, how to plan for the year ahead and how to get the best from your local talent pool. Our very own Communications Director Matt Bourn and Head of Events Suzanne Costello also took to the stage to talk about our first year as the official UK representative and all our Cannes Lions activities this year.

We also arranged very useful rep-to-rep exchange meetings with the Korea, Japan, Australia and Netherlands reps to discuss how we can further collaborate for the 2020 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. This follows on from the success of the Korea and China events that we organised this year. All in all it was a very successful meeting and we can’t wait to get started on our plans for next year. Watch this space!

CELEBRATING OUR CREATIVE SUCCESS

On Tuesday, we attended the Creative Industries Council Parliamentary Reception in the Members’ Dining Room in the House of Commons. The event was an outstanding celebration of the UK’s world-beating creative industries, with DCMS Secretary of State Nicky Morgan MP praising the £100bn a year contribution that the sector makes to the UK economy. There was an excellent turnout from industry figures, parliamentarians and other key stakeholders who enjoyed the interactive displays that showcased just how innovative we are as a country at the creative industries. Well done to Janet Hull of the IPA and all the CIC team for an excellent event!
