STELLAR SPEAKER LINE-UP ANNOUNCED FOR MEDIA BUSINESS COURSE

/ October 17th 2019 /

The Advertising Association has announced the speaker line-up for its annual media planning masterclass in Brighton this November, which includes industry leaders Karen Blackett OBE of WPP, Uncommon’s Nils Leonard and Alex Mahon of Channel 4

London, 16 October 2019: The Advertising Association has today announced a stellar line up of speakers for its Media Business Course (MBC), which will take place from 6-9 November 2019 at The Grand, Brighton. It is firmly established as the place where hundreds of young industry practitioners get the opportunity to hear insights from industry leaders and experts on how the media planning world operates.

MBC alumni have gone on to achieve success at the highest levels of industry, from Chief Executive of ITV, Dame Carolyn McCall, who attended the Media Business Course in 1988, to Rachel Bristow, Director of Partnerships at Sky Media and Grant Millar, now Global Lead at advertising agency Spark Foundry, to name but a few.

Over the three days delegates will be divided into syndicates and given a blue-chip client brief to devise a full media strategy, before pitching against each other to become the coveted Media Business Course winners. Throughout the process they will be guided by tutors who rank among the top strategic media talent in the UK and hear from some of the leading speakers in the industry. This year they include:

  • Karen Blackett OBE, Country Manager, WPP
  • Simon Daglish, Group Commercial Director, ITV
  • Tracy De Groose, Executive Chiar, Newsworks
  • Richard Eyre CBE, Chairman, IAB UK
  • Nils Leonard, Founder, Uncommon
  • Alex Mahon, CEO, Channel 4
  • Jehan Shah, Senior Industry Head, Google
  • Rory Sutherland, Vice Chairman, Ogilvy UK
  • James Wildman, President, Hearst Europe

Media Business Course Co-Chairs, Karen Stacey, CEO, Digital Cinema Media and David Wilding, Director of Planning, Twitter UK, commented: “Once again we have a truly stellar line up for the Media Business Course, and our tutors and judges are looking forward to an action packed and inspiring week, working with the best young talent in the industry – we can’t wait to get started!”

The MBC was originally devised in 1964 to meet the need for young people joining the media side of advertising to learn more about the business aspects of their chosen career. While the format of the course has altered over the years the subject matter has remained consistent. It began with an agenda looking into agencies but it grew rapidly, as did the need for a broader base including advertisers and media owners. Course founder, Rosemary Michael MBE, who was awarded Advertising Woman of the Year in 1982 and received an MBE in 2013 for her services to media education and training, guided these developments and has seen it evolve into its current format.
